Partizan is a big club of rich history and there`s almost no date during the year not to be associated with something memorable. It doesn`t have to be a win necessarily but it serves us to remember what we went through over the years and how much we were appreciated on European circuit.
On 20th of April 1966, Partizan played at famous Old Trafford and lost 1-0 to the home side but this win wasn`t enough for Busby Babes to reach European Cup final as Partizan beat them 2-0 in the first leg week prior.
The only goal of the game was scored by Nobby Styles 15 mins from time and the reason Mighty Reds didn`t match Partizan first leg advantage was down to excellent performance of goalkeeper Milutin Soskic, defensive dominance of Branko Rasovic and Velibor Vasovic keeping Denis Law at bay while the rest of the Partizan line-up executed coach Abdulah Gegic`s tactical duties in impeccable manner.
Everyone in the UK and Europe were thrilled with Partizan performances and talks about phenomenal and unstoppable team started to occur. European greats showed their interest in top Partizan stars even before the big EC final against the five-time European champions Real Madrid, something that proved pivotal in our team`s narrowly defeat the big Brussels clash.
At least, Partizan was the first Eastern European club to reach European Cup final and this was the famous line-up taking on Real Madrid at Heysel:
Soskic (g), Jusufi, Mihajlovic, Becejac, Rasovic, Vasovic, Bajic, Davidovic, Hasanagic, Miladinovic, Pirmajer.
