From 2-0 win over Nasa Krila in 1947 until last year`s penalty shoot-out defeat against Vojvodina, Partizan participated in 23 national cup finals winning 15 of them. There were some legendary finals like the one in 1952 when Partizan won Crvena Zvezda 6-0 or 6-1 trashing of Velez in 1989 as well as 6-1 win over Spartak in 1994 after a 3-2 first leg defeat.
Some of these finals were two-legged encounters, some were won or lost after a penalty shoot-outs while one of them was never finished. It was a final against Vojvodina in 2011, the one whose kick-off was late 30 mins followed by Vojvodina decision to leave the field once Partizan took the 2-1 lead. As a result, Partizan was awarded 3-0 walkover and this happened during Aleksandar Stanojevic`s first coaching spell at Partizan while two of the players from today`s roster also took part in 2011 final – keeper Stojkovic and right-back Miljkovic.
Over the seven decades of cup finals Partizan battled 14 different teams for the trophy. Crvena Zvezda was our opponent on 11 occasions and Partizan won 6 finals against bitter rivals. Other clubs Partizan met in a national cup final were Nasa Krila, Dinamo Zagreb, Rijeka, Velez, Spartak, Obilic, Radnicki Nis, Zemun, Sevojno, Cukaricki, Javor, Mladost and Vojvodina (twice).
Final away to Crvena Zvezda on 25th of May will be record seventh consecutive cup final outing for Partizan. Talking about finals against our bitter rivals, Partizan won all three previous meetings with a same 1-0 final score. Sasa Ilic scored the winner in 2001, Nikola Milenkovic in 2017 and Bojan Ostojic in 2019.
Besides Bojan Ostojic, only two players from Partizan current roster managed to score goals in a cup final – Sasa Zdjelar hit the net in a 2-1 win over Mladost in 2018 while Filip Stevanovic scored in a regular time 2-2 draw against Vojvodina last year.
