Former Partizan defender Marko Jovanovic attended latest edition of Partizan Podcast. He recently hanged his boots and joined Partizan coaching team.
A massive Partizan fan himself, 35-year-old revealed how his return to Partizan came about.
“Boss Duljaj called me and it was a great surprise for me. He explained how he loves Partizan kids, those who graduated from Partizan youths, just like he did. The idea is for me to tighten up defensive lines a bit. So, I accepted Duljaj`s invitation to “spread Grobari spirit” as he would say”.
In his new role, Jovanovic is also expected to be a mentor to Partizan youngsters.
“I spoke to Milicic already and I tried to envisage what Partizan represents. Simply, Partizan demands different things compared to all the other clubs. Milicic is a clever lad and I think he gets it all already. Moreover, he is a big Partizan supporter which is of extreme importance”.
A chat with Jovanovic is not possible without a mention of one night in Brussels, when Partizan qualified for the Champions League group stage.
“From this perspective, I can say it was the happiest moment of my career. Back then, Lukaku was huge and powerful but I think Krstajic and myself kept him at bay. I`m glad it all turned out great and I`m also proud as Anderlecht players from that tie ended up playing in AC Milan, West Ham and other great clubs”, said Jovanovic.
