Partizan won Borac Podgorica 1-0 on 8th of March 1959 to secure Yugoslav Cup semi-final appearance. But, this date is to be remembered by something much more significant – it was the first time our team played in black-and-white shirts.
Partizan started 1959/60 season in white shirts, white shorts and blue socks and final game played in such kit was Radnicki Beograd match won 1-0. It was played on 23rd of November 1958 and the only goal of the game was scored by Srdjan Cebinac just after the break.
Seven days later, Partizan played in black-and-white shirts for league game 2-0 win over Vojvodina. It remained first-choice combo ever since although on occasions we played in before-mentioned white shirts and shorts combination along with claret-blue, all-back or all-grey kits, all as a second of third-choice options.
Actually, initiative to switch to black-and-white was started by Partizan legend Stjepan Bobek who hanged his boots during winter of 1959/60 season but played once more in his favourite colours as part of the veteran Partizan team on 10th of October 1991, in a friendly away to Rijeka.
Partizan will play in black-and-white tomorrow in a 172nd edition of Eternal Belgrade derby game. First time Partizan played a big derby game in black-and-white was on a 10th of May 1959 when our team won Crvena Zvezda 3-1 away.
