It was a chilly and rainy afternoon at the “Temple of Football,” but Partizan delivered a solid performance and delighted the fans with three new points against Spartak from Subotica – 2–1 (2–0).
Although the final score does not fully reflect it, the players coached by Nenad Stojaković controlled proceedings throughout and fully deserved the victory.
The path to triumph was paved by Vanja Dragojević, who headed home superbly in the 23rd minute after an excellent cross from Ognjen Ugrešić. Then, in stoppage time of the first half, Andrej Kostić delicately chipped the ball past the advancing goalkeeper Aleksandar Vulić to make it 2–0.
In the second half, play continued to unfold mainly in front of the visitors’ goal. The match would have been free of any drama had Demba Sek converted a one-on-one opportunity in the 77th minute, but he missed the target. In the continuation of that same attack, Spartak pulled one back through Aleksa Trajković, introducing unnecessary tension.
Still, Partizan saw the game out confidently and intelligently, creating several more attacking situations that could have sealed the win. In the end, when everything is summed up, the victory was absolutely deserved.
