Zvonko Varga, former Partizan star and member of the coaching staff attended first edition of Partizan Interview show. Varga was not in the spotlight for almost a decade but he is now back at his home club in the role of Youth Academy Coordinator. Partizan fans are thrilled to see another club legend back in the ranks and Zvonko Varga is here to help Partizan recovery.
“I made a conscious decision to kind of pull back, to follow it all from afar. It was hard to watch it all as the drop in quality was going on for years and now we are paying the price the work done. Or should I say, for the work not done”, Varga revealed the reasons behind his hiatus.
The 65-year-old spoke about his role in new Partizan set-up.
“I`m in charge of kids 6 to 12 years of age and together with Miralem Sulejmani we are planning to raise the level of work in our academy. Changes will be implemented starting from January and our working system will be on a European level. Our aim is to get Partizan academy back on the path of success.
Varga underlined how pleased he is to see a number of Partizan youngsters joining the first team and he is ready to give them a word of advice.
“I remember the final of Mitropa Cup, competition Partizan won. I had a great game, running over 10 kilometers in such a bad weather conditions and I even won as a penalty-kick. However, I was subbed and such decision made me very crossed, I didn`t even celebrate our win as I should, in my head it was all about being subbed. But, I later realized it was a lesson; coach wanted to show me how I always have to be on that level, being it a training session or in a game against so-called minnows”, said Zvonko Varga.
