Partizan Podcast: Svetozar Markovic

29 Oct 2023 NEWS

Partizan team captain Svetozar Markovic attended latest edition of Partizan Podcast. It`s nice to be a Partizan fan again, as our team is top of the pile after ten league wins in a row. However, it wasn`t like it at the beginning of the season and after early European exit and skipper Markovic revealed how the team managed to pick up.

“It wasn`t easy, we were eliminated by Nordsjaelland 6-0 on aggregate and it was quite complicated to pick up after that tie. At that time, it was really important we hang on together, to help each other and cancel this bad patch with wins. Two games we trailed 2-0 but won them in the end (IMT and Radnik) did a lot. We believed in ourselves and each other and those late comebacks showed that we can do the job. It pushed us forward in games that followed and we kept winning”, said 23-year-old Markovic.

Although Partizan won Spartak 3-0 away, it was an extremely tough encounter. Markovic himself scored the opener.

“All my anger came out from that strike, it`s probably the best goal of my career so far. As a centre-back, I don`t get many opportunities to score with my foot, I think it`s probably the second time in my career I scored as such”.

Moreover, Partizan kept four clean sheets in a row. It was so much different earlier in the season, five or seven-goal thrillers. Now, it`s more of a calm waters for the team.

“The less goals we concede, the bigger confidence is there for as at the back and the whole team. We didn`t concede a single goal in the last four outings and we`ll do our best to keep this record as long as possible. We needed time to blend in, same goes for forwards, wingers and us at the back. It takes a full team effort to keep a clean sheet”.

Finally, Markovic turned back to  incredible Partizan fans support away, even on a Friday, 2pm kick-off.

“Each away game looked like a home one. From Novi Sad, Backa Topola and the latest one in Kragujevac. We had so many fans for every away match and I hope they`ll keep coming to support us and help us win”, said Markovic.
